SEO Glossary
This glossary should help to understand the main topic-specific words that are used in my FBA and might not be known to readers outside the search-engine related branche. The problem is that new words come up almost every week, coined by Google engineers, famous webmasters or by chance.
Affiliate
Als Affiliate oder Affiliate Marketing wird das Bewerben von Produkten anderer Firmen beschrieben. Der Affiliate, was übersetzt so etwas wie „Partner“ bedeutet, bekommt für seine Vermittlung/Klicks Provision.
Algorithm
Sequence of calculations that are linked, used to perform a specific task, e.g. compute the order of the search engines results pages.
Black Hat
Black hat seos work without taking into account that they might ruin the search engines index. The rules of profit and testing what types of search engine spam are possible will always be a guarantee that webmasters will use black hat techniques to achieve their goals.
Content
Content is the description for the text you can find on a webpage.
The more interesting content in form of text a search engine and a user can find, the easier success in your ranking will follow.
Cascading Style Sheets
Cascading Style Sheets over the possibility to design webpages without the need to use html tags or tables. Modern web design companies always use CSS for achieving their purposes.
DMOZ
DMOZ was one of the first web directories and still plays an important role today. It is used by Google as a data source for their directory.
PPC
PPC stands for Paid per Click, which means buying visitors per click, for example using Google AdWords. Pay per Click is also offered by Overture,Mirago and Yahoo! to their publishers.
SEO
SEO stands as an abreviation for Search Engine Optimization, which means every factor that is influenced in order to improve a ranking of a website at major search engines. In addition SEO describes a person who does offer the service of search engine optimization for his clients or uses SEO techniques for his own webpages.
