Explanation

If you are searching for a word or a phrase on Google, you will see ads on the right site of the results page in almost all cases.

These ads are provided by the Google AdWords system, which can be a very valuable research for companies wanting to aquire new customers.

How AdWords works

AdWords, even though it is a very complicated system if one decides to use all the possibilities it provides for its advertisers, can be explained easily.

You chose the search words when your ad should appear, for example “cheap shoes”, and create your add.

Each time a surfer clicks on your ad, you have to pay a certain amount of money. The more advertisers want to be in the top spot, the higher the amount of money for each click gets.

The minimum amount is, at the current moment at 0,05 € per click.

Since many companies offer similar things, like shoes, computers or insurances, you should try to find keywords that are very close to your target in order to pay less.
You can limit your maximal cost per click and money you want to spent each day. AdWords bills the money via credit card.

Search vs. Content Network

Google provides the possibility to advertise either in the Search Network, or in the Content Network (AdSense), or you can bid on different terms and prices for each network.
Each of these networks offers advantages and disadvantages for the avertiser.

Search Network Advantages

The searcher is search for a focused keyword/phrase

Maybe the searcher intends to buy the product

Search Network Disadvantages

Only searching information about a product

Wants to compare prices and buy offline

Content Network Advantages

Very many possible visitors, you can choose website to advertise on

Some websites intend to sell or provide information about products and hope to generate AdSense revenue

Content Network Disadvantages

Very poor conversion rate

Many websites use AdSense as means of spam

Tipps for using AdWords successfully

  • Provide information about the product you want to sell on a special Landing Page.
  • Optimize your ads and your keywords
  • Track your conversion rate using the possibilities AdWords prepares
  • Use a broad range of websites to advertise on, test different minimum costs per click
  • Sometimes it is neccesary to wait 2-4 weeks until you see results in conversions (new buyers brought through AdWords)

Summary

Google AdWords provides a lot of possibilities to advertise and gain new buyers and image with the use of comparable little budget. Buying targeted clicks from users that are searching from your field, combined with tracking conversion and filter options can be a vary valuable part in a marketing campaign for any company or website.

Google Adwords Experience

In order to show the different possibilities, I want to mention my own experiences with Google AdWords, which i used to test the performance of Google AdWords.

Since I mainly own communities/boards, like my soccer board, I bought clicks in order to gain new visitors and users. Unfortunately I must admit that it is very hard to find the target clicks which you need without spending a lot of budget for testing and experimenting with AdWords, which also needs a lot of time.

I also know that some webmaster can earn a living, either providing their AdWords knowledge to other companies as consultant, or using affiliate programs, like insurance services and getting paid for providing other companies with new costumers.

It is possible to earn a lot of money using AdWords in the right way, but it needs a lot of time and experience and investments until the profits show up.
I will continue my testing with AdWords in some other sectors and I hope it does pay off some day in the near future.
